Description
The ITUS is a lightweight, reversible harness that’s completely versatile and features a seat board, airbag, and SAS-TEC protection. The backpack can be completely detached if desired. Always on board: an extra layer of safety.
3.7 kg (size M) I honeycomb seat board I SAS-TEC protection + pre-inflated airbag with 3-chamber system
Multi-talented to the max . As a versatile reversible harness, the ITUS can be used in all hike-and-fly situations, whether flying locally, cross-country, or traveling around the world. To help you achieve your daily goal, it has clever features. For example, a zipper allows the backpack to be completely detached from the harness. The result; a harness with a seat board, comfortable in flight as well as super light and compact on the ground. Please note: a variety of ITUS-compatible backpacks will soon be available for retrofitting, allowing flexible packing volume depending on the equipment or intended use. Simply zip in the required size… and you’re ready to go! You never carry more weight than necessary and you have exactly the storage space you need.
Every day in perfect shape. The carrying comfort of the ITUS has been extensively tested and intelligently optimized: the SAS-TEC harness protector also serves as the backpack’s backrest. When carried as a backpack, the protector distributes pressure over a wide area, creating the same effect as the ergonomic backrest of a hiking backpack. Even with a fully stuffed bag, the load won’t push uncomfortably against the back. An ergonomically shaped, padded hip belt helps relieve shoulder pressure when carrying. Water bottles, hiking poles, jackets, and other small items are always within easy reach in the practical pockets. Once in the air, it remains comfortable – with a honeycomb seat board, a breathable backrest, and ample storage space within easy reach for instruments, gloves, muesli bars, etc.
Designed down to the smallest detail. One of the key features of the ITUS is safety. The harness materials and handling have been extensively tested in daily use, on the G-Force Trainer, and in a test environment. The results are impressive – as soon as you unpack the harness, the airbag fills up… without waiting for the flight. This is achieved thanks to a 3-chamber system supported by Nitinol wire and a polycarbonate plate. The two memory supports constantly return to their original shape, but remain flexible during packing. This facilitates the small packing volume of the ITUS and protects the pilot from the moment of takeoff. The color-coded buckles of the Clicksafe system facilitate correct connection. The additional SAS-TEC protection distributes the pressure of hard objects, such as stones on the ground or a bottle in the storage compartment, over a larger surface in the event of a fall on the back, reducing the risk of serious back injuries.
Directional parachute compartment. During the design, special attention was paid to parachute deployment. For one simple reason: unhindered deployment of the reserve is essential for pilot safety. To ensure easy operation even in difficult conditions, our test pilots and developers conducted countless ITUS tests on the G-Force Trainer. Reserve deployment was tested at the highest G-load, taking into account all possible deployment directions. The inner container was adapted accordingly. Thanks to this new design, the pulling force is distributed across the entire front of the reserve. This facilitates deployment and prevents the reserve from getting stuck in the compartment, regardless of the angle at which you pull it.
Take off the backpack and wash it – no problem!
Anyone who hikes or treks in the mountains reaches the point where, after a few warm days, they may want to clean the backpack portion of the reversible harness. With most harnesses, this isn’t easy without wetting the protection or the integrated parachute, which is essential to keep dry for reliable deployment in an emergency. Thanks to the ITUS’s removable backpack, it is perfectly possible to wash it. In this case, please hand wash it with water and mild soap. The backpack is not suitable for machine washing or drying.
For which driver?
The ITUS is ideal for all pilots who want maximum flexibility in terms of equipment weight and packing volume without compromising on comfort and safety. Quite the opposite: during its development, the ITUS was tested beyond the stipulated certification values. The EN standard for harnesses only stipulates that the parachute release force be between 2 and 7 daN – deployment in different directions is not required. With the ease with which the parachute can be deployed in any direction, the ITUS clearly exceeds the certification standards. Anyone who is particularly concerned about safety will appreciate the ITUS during hike-and-fly, bivouac, and cross-country flights, whether they are an experienced pilot or on their first day on a training slope.
In summary: Suitable for both young and old. The ITUS is available in sizes S, M, and L. Soon, other backpacks for different packing volumes will be available for all sizes.
SAS-TEC and airbag. The SAS-TEC protection made of soft viscoelastic foam was originally used for motorcycling and skiing. It is very lightweight and guarantees excellent support and pressure distribution in the back area. When the ITUS is inverted into a backpack, it also serves as a comfortable back support. The airbag is already inflated within 30 seconds of unpacking.
Clicksafe Buckle System. Our Clicksafe system with color-coded buckles means you can be sure at a glance that you’ve connected correctly. The main suspension points and buckles are green on the right side and red on the left.
Optimized parachute compartment. The reserve parachute compartment was designed using 3D design software and tested in practice for all deployment directions. The harness and inner container of the reserve are optimized for easy deployment – the risk of the parachute getting stuck in the compartment has been eliminated.
Robust materials. A particularly tear-resistant ripstop fabric is used for the airbag, combined with Nitinol yarn and a polycarbonate panel (two memory materials) that always return to their original shape. The zippers, straps, integrated carabiners, and the honeycomb seat board have also proven themselves in practice. When selecting all materials, particular attention was paid not only to safety and durability, but also to lightness.
Technologies
Lightweight and durable. Lightweight harnesses combine low weight with high durability and strength. This is achieved through the use of high-quality fabric and intelligent tailoring to minimize unnecessary materials.
Airbags offer an unbeatable weight-to-utility ratio. Our airbags are designed to inflate quickly and protect the rider’s posterior, including as much of the back as possible.
Clever design. We’re talking about Nitinol. This material can be bent when packing the equipment, but it always returns to its original shape. This characteristic can be very useful! In paragliders, high-quality Nitinol rods replace the usual nylon rods. They are even more robust and ensure optimal shaping of the wing profile. In harnesses, the properties of Nitinol are used, among other things, to allow the airbag to fill with air before takeoff.
The technology was developed for motorcycles and skiing, but it’s perfect for paragliding. The protector, made by German manufacturer SAS-TEC, protects and stabilizes the entire upper back, contributing to both comfort and safety.
A perfect fit. Our S and L sizes are not simply scaled copies of the M size. Each size is individually designed. The result is tailor-made geometry: every rider has an optimal seating position – no more disproportionate geometry « off the mark »!
Clearly color-coded buckles make it easy to prepare for disassembly. Red to red, green to green, and black to black. Completely clear and ideal for learners.
A backpack and harness in one, both lightweight and durable. This makes reversible harnesses ideal for pilots who enjoy mountain hiking or simply traveling light. Safety is paramount: NOVA continually optimizes the protections and rescue system to go far beyond the prescribed standard.
Clever solution: The reserve container located under the seat board is designed as a tubular container. In combination with the dedicated reserve container, this ensures trouble-free deployment in any pulling direction. The parachute is easy to install and use and uses zippers, a rod, and two buckles.
In control. The seat board is an integral element designed to maintain the shape of the harness. It determines both the width and length of the seat. Harnesses with a board are ideal for pilots looking for greater stability.
Please note that the ITUS runs small. If in doubt, we recommend trying the larger size.
